The Device Project

DEVICE (Deep Village Community based Exploration) is a collaboration between Aarhus University and Øhavsmuseet. The project explores the historical village, i.e. the villages that prevail today, based on their morphology and demographic reactions to crisis and prosperity throughout the last millennium. The project methodology is based on the British CORS project, however, adapted to the special Danish conditions in terms of settlement structure, village dynamics and ceramic tradition, as ceramics is the main source of the project.

In the initial phase, the field work within the project has been carried out as seminar excavations with graduate students from Aarhus University. The goal is to expand the project to other villages and regions over the next years.

The project is conducted by Poul Baltzer Heide and Mette Svart Kristiansen.
